Thomas Young, a 46-year-old resident of Chichester, pleaded guilty on Mar. 26 in federal court to unlawful possession of a firearm. The plea was entered before U.S. District Court Judge Landya McCafferty, according to U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan. Sentencing is set for July 2.
This case highlights the enforcement of federal laws that prohibit convicted felons from possessing firearms, which authorities say is important for public safety.
Court documents show that Young had previously been convicted of a felony drug offense in New Hampshire. On February 8, 2024, he sold a firearm and ammunition to a confidential source.
The charge carries a maximum prison sentence of fifteen years, up to $250,000 in fines, and not more than three years of supervised release. Sentences are determined by the federal judge based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation into this case with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Anna Krasinski is prosecuting.
