Chris Pappas, a U.S. Congressman representing New Hampshire’s 1st district since 2019, has been actively engaging with issues pertinent to his constituents through social media. On May 7 and 8, 2025, he addressed concerns ranging from health care to military policies and veterans’ affairs.
On May 7, Pappas highlighted the critical issue of breast cancer in New Hampshire, noting that the state has “the 5th highest rate of breast cancer in the United States.” He emphasized the importance of routine screening for early detection and better outcomes. He expressed gratitude towards “the Granite Staters with the NH Breast Cancer Coalition” for their visit to his office and their ongoing efforts. “Thank you to the Granite Staters with the NH Breast Cancer Coalition for stopping by my office this week and all you do!”
Later that day, Pappas addressed a decision affecting transgender service members. He criticized it as discriminatory and harmful to military readiness. Pappas affirmed his commitment to supporting those who wish to serve in the military, stating: “Transgender service members are qualified to serve and should be able to do so.” He further stated that such decisions threaten military strength.
On May 8, Pappas voiced concerns over legislation advanced by Republicans in the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee. He accused them of legalizing predatory practices against veterans instead of restoring authority to penalize for-profit companies exploiting them. His remarks were aimed at promoting his GUARD VA Benefits Act: “Instead of restoring VA’s authority…Republicans advanced legislation to legalize these predatory practices.”
Chris Pappas was born in Manchester, New Hampshire in 1980 and graduated from Harvard University in 2002 with a BA. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 2002 to 2010.
