U.S. Representative Chris Pappas, who represents New Hampshire’s 1st district in Congress, posted a series of statements on October 9, 2025, addressing military pay during government shutdowns, health care tax breaks for veterans, and affordable housing initiatives in his state.
In a post published at 14:10 UTC, Pappas wrote, “Paying our service members should be above politics.
That’s why I support bipartisan legislation to pay service members during a shutdown, and that’s why I’ve joined a letter calling on @SpeakerJohnson to bring the House back to pass it.”
Later that day, at 17:28 UTC, Pappas highlighted concerns about veterans’ health care coverage if certain tax breaks are not extended. He stated, “Failing to extend critical health care tax breaks will hurt our veterans.
Health care costs would increase significantly for 623,000 veterans who get their insurance through the ACA marketplace. 267,000 of them would be priced out of coverage. That’s unacceptable.”
At 18:58 UTC, Pappas reported attending a local housing event: “Great to be in Wolfeboro today for the groundbreaking ceremony for Phase III of Harriman Hill, a 30 unit affordable housing project.
We need more affordable housing across our state. I’ll keep working to ensure our communities have resources to get projects like this one done.”
Chris Pappas has represented New Hampshire’s 1st congressional district since 2019 after succeeding Carol Shea-Porter and previously served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 2002 to 2010. Born in Manchester in 1980, Pappas is a Harvard University graduate and continues to reside in his hometown.
