Rep. Chris Pappas, U.S. Congressman representing New Hampshire’s 1st district since 2019, posted a series of tweets on April 2, 2026, addressing the impact of tariffs and celebrating contributions to space exploration by New Hampshire businesses.

In his first tweet on April 2, Pappas criticized President Trump’s tariff policies, stating: “After one year of President Trump’s tariffs, NH is paying the price:

Families have paid an additional $1,700 of their hard-earned money
U.S. manufacturing has lost 89,000 jobs
Canadian tourism in NH has fallen 30%
And small businesses and”

Two minutes later, he continued his critique and outlined legislative efforts: “Tariffs are a national sales tax that Americans are paying for every day.

I’m pushing legislation to end President Trump’s reckless tariffs on small businesses, groceries, and on New Hampshire’s #1 trading partner, Canada.

Later that evening, Pappas shifted focus to the achievements in space exploration linked to local innovation: “Wishing the astronauts a safe journey as they continue to advance space exploration and inspire generations to dream bigger.

This could not have been done without several New Hampshire businesses who continue to lead the way in innovation, science, and technology.”

Chris Pappas was born in Manchester, New Hampshire in 1980 and continues to reside there. He holds a BA from Harvard University (2002) and previously served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 2002 to 2010 before joining Congress. Since replacing Carol Shea-Porter in 2019 as representative for New Hampshire’s 1st district, Pappas has focused on issues affecting both his state and national policy.
