Rep. Chris Pappas, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New Hampshire’s 1st district since 2019, has recently addressed issues pertinent to veterans and healthcare in his state through a series of tweets.
On May 15, 2025, Rep. Pappas emphasized the longstanding need for a full-service VA hospital in New Hampshire. He stated that “New Hampshire veterans need and deserve a full-service VA hospital. They’ve been asking for one for 20 years now–they’re ready to see action.” He also mentioned having discussions with VA Secretary Doug Collins regarding an ongoing study by the VA aimed at delivering such facilities to New Hampshire.
In another tweet on the same day, Rep. Pappas reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that veterans’ voices are heard and their needs met: “I’ll keep working to ensure that New Hampshire veterans are heard and that the plan delivers the care and services they have earned through a full-service VA hospital in their own state.“
The following day, May 16, he highlighted concerns about proposed healthcare cuts: “Before going to DC this week, I met with health care providers, advocates, and people on Medicaid about how cuts being pushed by House Republicans will hurt Granite Staters and their ability to get care.” He criticized these potential cuts as benefiting only “the ultra-rich” while harming citizens reliant on Medicaid.
Chris Pappas was born in Manchester, New Hampshire in 1980 and has dedicated much of his career to public service within the state. Before joining Congress in 2019, he served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 2002 until 2010 after graduating from Harvard University with a BA.
