Rep. Chris Pappas, a U.S. Congressman representing New Hampshire’s 1st district since 2019, used his social media account to call for legislative action on federal agency funding and gas price relief in late March 2026.
On March 24, 2026, Pappas addressed ongoing negotiations over Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reforms and the impact on essential government employees’ pay. He stated, “Employees at TSA, the Coast Guard, FEMA, and other essential agencies deserve to be paid while ICE reforms are negotiated. House Republican leadership must stop playing games with people’s paychecks and bring legislation to the floor this week to fund these vital agencies and”.
Later that day, he commented on economic pressures facing American families: “Families were already facing higher costs at the grocery store and in health care, and now gas prices are skyrocketing thanks to this administration. The House should immediately pass my legislation to suspend the federal gas tax till October to provide Americans with relief.”
On March 25, 2026, Pappas announced further action: “I just signed the discharge petition to force a vote on legislation to fund TSA, the Coast Guard, FEMA, and other essential services within DHS. Let’s get this done.”
Chris Pappas has served as a member of Congress since replacing Carol Shea-Porter in 2019. Prior to his current role in Washington D.C., he served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 2002 until 2010. Born in Manchester in 1980, Pappas graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2002.
