Dartmouth men’s golf began the Ivy League Championship on April 24 at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey, finishing the first round in sixth place. Tyler Brand led the team with an even-par opening round, highlighted by a strong stretch from holes five to eight. Brand birdied both the fifth and sixth holes before recording consecutive eagles on the seventh and eighth. He added a birdie on seventeen and parred eighteen to close out his round, placing him third individually after day one.
The performance of Brand was supported by Fin Szafnauer, who finished two over par with a score of 74, putting him in twelfth place. Szafnauer started with a birdie on the first hole and another on seven, completing the front nine at one under par before shooting three over on the back nine while collecting six pars.
Aaron Zhang ended his day at seven over par and is currently twenty-seventh overall. Zhang opened with birdies on holes one and seven and managed to par eight other holes throughout his round. Luke Harper shot an eighty in his debut Ivy League Championship appearance for Dartmouth, recording birdies at holes one, thirteen, and eighteen along with seven pars.
Benjamin Wang rounded out scoring for Dartmouth with an eighty-four in his championship debut. Wang’s highlights included a birdie at the twelfth hole—a 215-yard par three—and seven pars during his round.
Looking ahead to Saturday’s second round scheduled for April 25, weather conditions are expected to be challenging due to rain and wind. Wang will start off for Dartmouth with the day’s first tee time set for 8 AM.
