The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) has announced that construction on the F.E. Everett Turnpike in Bedford will necessitate rolling roadblocks and lane closures starting Monday, November 24, 2025. The work will occur between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, weather permitting.
This phase involves striping a newly constructed All Electronic Tolling (AET) area north of the existing toll booth to accommodate both northbound and southbound traffic. During this time, traffic lanes will be temporarily reduced to two lanes each to ensure safety while construction proceeds.
Once traffic is shifted into the temporary configuration, crews will begin constructing the AET gantry along with all necessary tolling equipment and structures. Additional tasks include drainage improvements, guardrail installation, and pavement removal.
To manage traffic flow during construction, message boards, uniformed officers, traffic control devices, and smart work zone devices will be deployed. Motorists are encouraged to subscribe for real-time traffic updates via text or email at https://newengland511.org.
The project aims to convert the traditional tollbooth plaza on the F.E. Everett Turnpike in Bedford into an AET facility. This system allows vehicles to maintain highway speeds while fees are collected through an overhead gantry system. R.S. Audley of Bow, NH is managing this $16 million project, expected to conclude by Fall 2027.
