Greg Moore, state director of Americans for Prosperity New Hampshire, said in a May 25 post on X that Massachusetts lawmakers included $1.47 billion in earmarked projects in the state’s fiscal year 2027 budget process.
“Despite having a tight budget, MA lawmakers still found a way to pack it with $1.47B in pork projects,” Moore said. “No wonder they can’t afford to lose $800M by cutting the income tax on the ballot in November.”
Moore criticized proposed Senate budget amendments while citing a November ballot initiative to reduce the Massachusetts income tax rate from 5% to 4%.
The Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation said Senate members filed 1,158 amendments during consideration of the fiscal year 2027 budget proposal. The foundation said the amendments had a fiscal impact of at least $1.47 billion, and about 59%, or 687 amendments, were earmarks.
Massachusetts ranked sixth nationally in state and local tax collections per capita, with collections totaling $9,076 per person, according to the Tax Foundation.
Moore currently serves as the state director of Americans for Prosperity and Americans for Prosperity Foundation in New Hampshire. He previously served as chief of staff and policy director for the New Hampshire House of Representatives and has held policy and communications roles at the state and federal levels.
