A $1 million Powerball ticket sold at the Rochester Hannaford store in May has led to a $10,000 donation from the grocery retailer to three local non-profit organizations. Hannaford announced it will donate its commission from selling the winning ticket to groups that work to increase access to important resources for people and families in the greater Rochester area.

“It’s always exciting to see one of our customers experience such good fortune, and there’s no better way to celebrate than by paying it forward to the Rochester community,” said Jean-Marie Beauchemin, Director of Operations for Hannaford Supermarkets. “We hope this donation will further the efforts of these critical community organizations to increase access to critical resources for our neighbors.”

The New Hampshire Lottery recognized Hannaford’s action. “We applaud Hannaford for supporting these meaningful causes,” said Charlie McIntyre, Executive Director, New Hampshire Lottery. “It is inspiring to see one of our dedicated retail partners give back in such a generous and impactful way. The New Hampshire Lottery is honored to be a part of this effort to strengthen and support the greater Rochester community.”

Hannaford and the New Hampshire Lottery held a check presentation at the Rochester store with representatives from each organization receiving funds. The recipients are Community Action Partnership of Strafford County, SHARE Fund, and SOS Recovery Community Organization.

Community Action Partnership of Strafford County works on improving economic stability through education, advocacy, and partnerships. SHARE Fund provides housing, food, clothing, diapers, and emergency financial support for those in need. SOS Recovery Community Organization supports individuals affected by substance use with peer-based solutions.

“At SOS we are honored that Hannaford is making this donation to our organization,” said John Burns, Executive Director of SOS Recovery Community Organization. “At a time when many sources of funding are at risk this helps provide critical supports to our programs, including a new evidence-based program that will focus on supporting adolescents and their families who face problematic relationships with drugs.”

“SHARE Fund is sincerely grateful to have been chosen as a recipient of these funds. Hannaford continues to show their support, not only to agencies like ours, but to the overall community,” said LeeAnn Bruneau, Executive Director of SHARE Fund. “While we’re seeing an increase in the number of local families visiting the pantry for help with basic needs, we’re also seeing a decrease in the donations we receive. Thanks to support like this, we’re able to continue helping our neighbors in need.”

Hannaford has shown ongoing commitment toward supporting communities across its region. In 2024 alone, it donated more than 27 million pounds of food and supported about 135 community partners across its stores.
