The Ivy League announced on Apr. 29 its major awards and All-Ivy teams for men’s golf, recognizing Dartmouth’s Luke Harper as Rookie of the Year and naming him to the All-Ivy Second Team. Tyler Brand was awarded Academic All-Ivy honors.
Harper had a strong first season in collegiate golf, finishing in the top ten at four events. He won the Columbia Autumn Invite in only his second career start with a score of nine under par after three consecutive rounds of three under par. At the Elon Phoenix Invitational, he tied for fifth place by finishing eight under par, including an opening round at two under par followed by two rounds at three under par each. Harper finished three tournaments this season with scores below par and tied for ninth place in his first Ivy League Tournament. During challenging weather conditions in the second round at Baltusrol Golf Club, he posted a two-under-par round—the best score that day. He is Dartmouth’s first Rookie of the Year since Jason Liu received the honor in 2018 and is only the fourth Dartmouth golfer to earn this recognition.
Head Coach Rich Parker commented on Harper’s achievements: “I could not possibly be happier and prouder that Luke was voted Ivy League Rookie of the Year by the Ivy coaches. Hard working dedicated and possibly the kindest person I’ve coached over my 21 years. Luke is one of those guys who is always practicing while nobody is watching.”
Brand also delivered a notable junior season with five top-15 finishes across eight starts. The economics major achieved his best result at the Columbia Autumn Invite where he tied for fourth place after shooting six under par overall, including rounds of three under par and four under par in later rounds. Brand recorded nine rounds this season at or below par.
The recognitions highlight individual accomplishments within Dartmouth men’s golf during this year’s competition.
