A Lowell resident, Tyler Savinon, 19, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release for his role in aiding and abetting the robbery of a mail carrier in New Hampshire. The sentencing took place in federal court before U.S. District Chief Judge Samantha D. Elliott. In April 2025, Savinon pleaded guilty to one count related to the incident.

Court documents and statements revealed that Savinon directed two others to rob a mail carrier with the goal of stealing a proprietary key used to unlock blue mail collection boxes in Nashua. Investigators found that he later used the stolen key to access at least two mailboxes located on Dunstable Road and Spring Street in Nashua.

U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan commented on the case, stating, “Mail carriers perform an essential public service, and they deserve to do their jobs without fear of violence or intimidation. Today’s sentence holds the defendant accountable for knowingly aiding a crime that put a federal employee and the public at risk.”

Acting Inspector-in-Charge Nicholas J. Bucciarelli of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Boston Division, said, “Combating mail theft and violent crimes targeting postal employees is of the highest priority for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. As the law enforcement arm of the Postal Service, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service leads the Postal Service’s efforts to protect all postal employees, including letter carriers, and ensure the secure delivery of mail to the American public. Today’s sentencing highlights our dedication to keeping our employees safe.”

The investigation was led by the United States Postal Inspection Service with support from both Nashua Police Department and Lowell Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Anna Z. Krasinski prosecuted the case.
