A new on-site laundry facility at Mountain View Community is nearing completion, addressing a longstanding logistical challenge for staff, according to a May 29 announcement from Carroll County officials. For more than ten years, employees have had to manually transport heavy loads of laundry between the current and old nursing home buildings.
By consolidating laundry services within the main building, Commissioners Chuck McGee, Harold Parker, and Gene Chandler said they are prioritizing improved sanitation, infection control, and staff safety. The commissioners said in a joint statement, “Our staff is the backbone of Mountain View Community. Removing the burden of hauling laundry across the campus isn’t just about efficiency; it’s about providing a safer, more professional environment for our dedicated team. We are proud to see this project nearing the finish line.”
The project is funded through a GOFERR County Nursing Home Infrastructure Program revolving loan. Of the $2.1 million total investment, $855,000 will be reimbursed to Carroll County as part of efforts to ensure critical upgrades while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
In addition to the new laundry facility, improvements include upgraded door security and fire sprinkler systems; replacement of 103 beds; installation of new therapy tubs; modernization of nurse call systems; and updated rehabilitation equipment.
After several successful site inspections, county officials say that construction remains on schedule to meet the June 30 GOFERR program deadline.
