A Nashua resident and federal employee was charged on May 1 with interstate communication of a threat against the President, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan. The individual, Dean DelleChiaie, age 35, was arrested and appeared before the court following his arrest.
The case is significant because it involves alleged threats made directly toward the President of the United States by a federal employee using both government resources and personal email. Such cases are prosecuted by federal authorities due to their potential impact on national security and public safety.
According to Creegan, DelleChiaie is accused of conducting internet searches in late January on his work computer related to bringing firearms into federal facilities, previous assassination attempts against the President, statistics about those wanting harm to come to the President, and typing “I am going to kill Donald John Trump.” The complaint states that during an interview with Secret Service agents in early February, DelleChiaie admitted making these searches at work and confirmed he owned three firearms.
On April 21, DelleChiaie allegedly sent an email from his personal account to a White House address with the subject “Contact the President.” In this message he wrote: “I, Dean DelleChiaie, am going neutralize/kill you – Donald John Trump – because you decided to kill kids – and say that it was War – when in reality – it is terrorism. God knows your actions and where you belong.”
If convicted of these charges, DelleChiaie could face up to five years in prison as well as a $250,000 fine. “The details contained in charging documents are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” Creegan said.
The United States Secret Service leads this investigation with assistance from Nashua Police Department; Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Shannon will prosecute. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Hampshire prosecutes federal crimes and manages civil cases for the government; it also builds alliances with law enforcement agencies at all levels according to its official website.
