The New Hampshire Department of Transportation announced that a restoration, rehabilitation, resurfacing, and reconstruction project on Interstate 93 in Franconia is scheduled to begin the week of April 13, 2026. The work is expected to be completed by August 4, 2028.
According to the department, the project will include pavement, bridge, drainage, and guardrail work. The initial phase will focus on widening the deceleration lane along the shoulder of the Exit 36 Northbound Off Ramp. Pavement rehabilitation will involve milling, reclaiming, and paving both northbound and southbound barrels from Mile Marker 111.6 to Mile Marker 116.2. Work will also take place at Exits 35, 36, and 37.
Eleven bridges along this section of I-93 are set for rehabilitation with tasks ranging from full and partial depth deck repairs to joint replacements and abutment and wingwall repairs. Additional components include guardrail replacement, drainage replacement, ramp safety improvements, sign replacements, Intelligent Transportation System installations, ramp counter systems, and tree clearing.
Traffic management measures such as message boards, flaggers, uniformed officers, and traffic control devices will be used as needed throughout the construction period. The department encourages road users to consider alternate routes or plan for delays during peak hours when traveling through the work zone. Drivers are also urged to remain alert in construction areas and obey all posted signs.
Alvin J. Coleman & Son Inc., based in North Conway, New Hampshire was awarded the prime contract with a bid of $36 million for this project. Further details can be found in the organization’s press release.
