The New Hampshire Republican Party has announced on X that Democrats are aligning with Governor J.B. Pritzker and U.S. Representative Chris Pappas on policies that the party claims would broadly raise taxes and impact public safety.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker headlined the New Hampshire Democratic Party’s McIntyre-Shaheen 100 Club Dinner, where he called for Democrats to resist Republican narratives and embrace progressive values more boldly. According to AP News, Pritzker urged Democrats to confront what he described as a “culture of timidity,” accusing GOP leaders of eroding democratic norms and pushing authoritarianism. His appearance in New Hampshire was seen as an effort to strengthen national influence and support fellow Democrats in a key battleground state.

Pritzker’s 2025 Illinois state budget included $1.1 billion in new taxes and totaled $53.1 billion in spending, marking the largest budget in state history. As detailed by Illinois Policy, the tax increases targeted sports betting, business operating losses, and other sectors, prompting criticism from Republican lawmakers who claimed the plan discouraged economic growth and risked driving residents out of the state. These fiscal policies have become a focal point for critics, including the New Hampshire GOP, who argue they exemplify unsustainable progressive governance.

U.S. Representative Chris Pappas voted against a Republican-led bill that combined tax relief with increased border security enforcement, a move spotlighted by Republican operatives. According to NH Journal, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) used Pappas’s vote to claim he was siding with the far left of his party due to concerns that the bill limited funding for healthcare and food assistance programs. Pappas defended his vote by emphasizing the legislation’s broader social impact, asserting it would harm vulnerable New Hampshire residents.

The New Hampshire Republican Party is the official state affiliate of the national Republican Party and plays a key role in organizing and endorsing conservative candidates for public office across New Hampshire. As outlined on the party’s official website, it engages in grassroots mobilization, policy advocacy, fundraising, and voter outreach initiatives to advance Republican values and priorities. The party frequently uses social media and public commentary to distinguish itself from Democratic counterparts and influence state political discourse.
