The New Hampshire Department of Transportation announced on March 26 that it will begin guardrail replacement and paving operations on NH Route 12 in Westmoreland and Walpole, as well as NH Routes 11 and 12 in Charlestown and Claremont, starting Monday, April 8, 2026. Traffic will be impacted through November.
According to the department, work is scheduled between the hours of 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, weather permitting. The pavement preservation project will cover approximately 19.1 miles of roadway and include the replacement of 45,000 linear feet of guardrail.
Message boards, flaggers, uniformed officers, and traffic control devices will be used as needed to direct the traveling public. Road users are advised to remain alert while traveling through the construction zone and obey all posted signs. A speed reduction of ten miles per hour during construction will also be implemented for safety.
The department encourages road users to sign up for free real-time construction and traffic-related messages via text or email from newengland511.org. Additional details about NHDOT paving projects can be found on the NHDOT Resurfacing Program web page.
Pike Industries, Inc. of Belmont has been contracted for the $9,625,850.90 project with a completion date set for September 2027 according to the official roster page.
