The New Hampshire Department of Transportation announced that nighttime construction work will take place on Interstate 95 and the Spaulding Turnpike in Seabrook, Newington, Dover, and Rochester as part of pavement preservation efforts. The work is set to begin on April 26, with temporary lane closures expected to impact travel for several months.
According to the department, crews will perform crack filling operations on I-95 between 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM. Lane closures will be implemented on the northbound side from the Massachusetts state line to Mile Marker 4.0, and on the southbound side from Mile Marker 5.0 to the Massachusetts state line.
Additional construction activities are scheduled for the Spaulding Turnpike (Route 16), where temporary nighttime ramp closures with signed detours will be in place at Exits 7 and 8 in both directions for milling and repaving operations. Full-width milling and repaving is also planned from Mile Marker 12.70 to Mile Marker 17.22 in both directions.
Message boards, uniformed officers, traffic control devices, and smart work zone devices will be used to notify drivers about ongoing work. The department encourages road users to sign up for free real-time construction and traffic updates via text or email from newengland511.org.
The project is part of the Eastern Turnpike (Seabrook–Newington–Dover–Rochester) preservation project #44504. Brox Industries, Inc., based in Dracut, Massachusetts, is serving as prime contractor for the $6,491,737.25 project. Completion is scheduled for September 2026 according to the organization’s press release.
