The New Hampshire Department of Transportation announced that overnight work will take place on I-95 Northbound in Portsmouth on April 29, between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM. The project will impact traffic as crews remove the concrete barrier and begin demobilizing construction equipment.
According to the department, this work will require closure of the right lane and shoulder on northbound I-95 between mile markers 14.8 and 15.2. Message boards, uniformed officers, traffic control devices, and smart work zone devices will be used to notify motorists about the changes.
Motorists are encouraged to sign up for free, real-time construction and traffic related messages via text or email from https://newengland511.org/.
This activity is part of a larger project involving the construction of two sound abatement walls and a privacy fence along I-95 in Portsmouth. Northeast Earth Mechanics, Inc., based in Pittsfield, New Hampshire, is serving as general contractor for the $18.7 million project. Completion is scheduled for spring 2026.
Further details can be found at the organization’s press release.
