Rep. Chris Pappas, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New Hampshire’s 1st district since 2019, posted a series of tweets on July 16, 2025, addressing concerns over federal funding cuts related to addiction response and support services for LGBTQ+ youth.
In his first tweet at 17:47 UTC, Pappas emphasized the need for continued efforts against drug trafficking and in support of recovery programs. He wrote, “To end the addiction crisis, we must crack down on drug trafficking AND strengthen prevention and recovery efforts.
Cutting funding for fentanyl overdose response efforts will take us backward. This funding must be delivered – lives are at stake.”
Later that evening at 18:37 UTC, Pappas provided an update with a brief message linking to ongoing developments: “Happening now. https://t.co/OxR8SnlldX”
At 19:17 UTC, he addressed the discontinuation of specialized support through the national mental health hotline for LGBTQ+ youth. Pappas stated, “But starting tomorrow 988 will no longer provide specialized support for LGBTQ+ youth.
I won’t stop urging the administration to stop these immoral cuts to lifesaving services.”
Chris Pappas has represented New Hampshire’s 1st District in Congress since succeeding Carol Shea-Porter in 2019. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 2002 to 2010. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire in 1980 and currently residing there, Pappas graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2002.
