Rep. Chris Pappas, U.S. Congressman representing New Hampshire’s 1st district since 2019, used his social media account this week to criticize recent legislative actions by the Republican majority in Congress and to reflect on the anniversary of a key milestone for LGBTQ+ rights.

On September 19, 2025, Pappas wrote: “Today the Republican majority in Congress abandoned bipartisanship and brought to the floor a highly partisan continuing resolution that fails to meet the needs of New Hampshire. Read my full statement below.”

The following day, September 20, he continued his criticism of House Republicans’ legislative approach: “This week House Republicans pushed through government funding legislation that will cause health care costs to skyrocket as well as a procedural measure that blocks Congress’s ability to push back against President Trump’s chaotic tariffs. Learn more. “

Later on September 20, Pappas acknowledged the anniversary of a significant policy change for LGBTQ+ service members: “14 years ago, ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ was repealed – a critical step toward equality for LGBTQ+ service members. The trauma of these policies isn’t over, and neither is the fight. We must ensure that those unfairly discharged get the benefits they earned and that those who want”.

Pappas has represented New Hampshire’s 1st district in Congress since succeeding Carol Shea-Porter in 2019 and previously served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 2002 to 2010. Born in Manchester in 1980 and currently residing there, Pappas graduated from Harvard University with a BA in 2002.
