Rep. Chris Pappas, who represents New Hampshire’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform in early October 2025 to criticize recent actions by the Trump administration and Congressional Republicans regarding energy costs and government funding.

On October 2, 2025, Pappas wrote: “Granite Staters already pay too much for energy. Now costs will be even higher because the Trump administration is canceling projects that were going to help to lower costs for our communities. It’s backwards and it’s wrong.”

Later that day, he addressed the ongoing government shutdown, stating: “Republicans control the House, Senate, and White House, and have chosen to shut the government down rather than lower health care costs and reverse Trump’s cuts to Medicaid.”

The following day, on October 3, Pappas reiterated his concerns about a lack of negotiation from Republican leadership: “Republicans control the House, Senate, and White House. They have chosen to avoid any negotiation and shut the government down rather than lower health care costs and reverse their Medicaid cuts. Here’s my update. https://t.co/KIG7Gv1kRg”

Chris Pappas has represented New Hampshire’s 1st District in Congress since 2019 after succeeding Carol Shea-Porter. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 2002 to 2010. Born in Manchester in 1980, Pappas continues to reside there and holds a BA from Harvard University.
