Rep. Chris Pappas, a U.S. Congress member representing New Hampshire’s 1st district since 2019, has voiced strong opposition to a legislative bill through a series of tweets on July 2, 2025. His statements reflect his concerns over the bill’s impact on vulnerable groups in New Hampshire.
On July 2, 2025, Rep. Chris Pappas expressed his disapproval of a legislative proposal by stating “I am a HELL NO on this big, ugly bill, which betrays New Hampshire’s working families, children, people with disabilities, seniors, and would devastate our hospitals and community health centers.” He called for four Republican colleagues to join him in opposing the bill.
Later that day at 18:54 UTC, Pappas shared his involvement with over a hundred colleagues in efforts to amend the legislation. He noted their attempt to include provisions safeguarding Medicaid and SNAP benefits. Despite these efforts, he remarked that “Republicans rejected every single one of our attempts to save millions of Americans from losing their health care and the food off their tables.”
In another tweet posted at 22:08 UTC on the same day, Pappas reiterated his stance against the bill by describing it as detrimental to New Hampshire residents’ access to essential services. He stated “The bill is a disaster that takes away health care, food assistance, and more from New Hampshire families.” He also referenced an interview on WMUR where he further elaborated on his views.
Chris Pappas was born in Manchester, New Hampshire in 1980 and graduated from Harvard University in 2002 with a BA. Before serving in Congress starting in 2019 after replacing Carol Shea-Porter, he was part of the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 2002 to 2010.
