Rep. Chris Pappas, U.S. Congressman representing New Hampshire’s 1st district since 2019, highlighted legislative milestones and community engagement in a series of recent posts on social media.
On July 26, Pappas marked the anniversary of a significant civil rights law, stating, “Today is the 35th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This landmark civil rights law prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life and works to ensure they have the same rights and opportunities as their neighbors.”
In another post dated July 27, he discussed legislative progress involving maritime policy: “This week the House passed the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2025. On the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittee, I worked to ensure this bill delivers for New Hampshire and our Coast Guard. On July 28, Pappas addressed local health care concerns following a visit to a nursing facility: “I joined staff and residents of Hillsborough County Nursing Home to hear directly from them about how the Big, Ugly Law jeopardizes their services and care. I will continue working to protect health care access and other essential programs for New Hampshire families and seniors.”
Chris Pappas was born in Manchester, New Hampshire in 1980 and has resided there throughout his career. He previously served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 2002 to 2010 before being elected to Congress in 2019. Pappas holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University (https://www.harvard.edu).
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), referenced by Pappas on its anniversary, was enacted in 1990 as a comprehensive civil rights law prohibiting discrimination based on disability across various sectors including employment, education, transportation, and public accommodations.
