Rep. Chris Pappas, a U.S. Congressman representing New Hampshire’s 1st district, posted a series of updates on January 17, 2026, addressing issues ranging from hate symbols in the military to public health and healthcare affordability.

In a post at 14:18 UTC, Pappas announced a policy reversal by the Coast Guard regarding hate symbols: “WIN: The Coast Guard reversed their new policy re-classifying swastikas, nooses, and the Confederate flag as ‘politically divisive’, instead of the hate symbols that they are. I led the charge against the outrageous policy that minimized the meaning of these clear antisemitic” (January 17, 2026).

Later that day at 16:21 UTC, he addressed rising flu cases in local communities with a public health message: “Our communities are experiencing a record amount of flu cases. Please take care of yourself and stay safe.” (January 17, 2026).

At 21:10 UTC, Pappas discussed ongoing efforts to extend enhanced premium tax credits under the Affordable Care Act following meetings with state healthcare leaders and constituents: “I met with New Hampshire health care leaders and constituents to discuss the critical importance of extending the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced premium tax credits and the significant burden not doing so is having on New Hampshire families and our health care system.” (January 17, 2026).

Pappas has served in Congress since replacing Carol Shea-Porter in 2019 and previously served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 2002 to 2010. He was born in Manchester in 1980 and is an alumnus of Harvard University.
