Rep. Chris Pappas, a U.S. Congressman representing New Hampshire’s 1st district since 2019, announced on January 22, 2026, a series of legislative initiatives aimed at redirecting federal funds to support local law enforcement in New Hampshire.
In a post made at 18:11 UTC, Pappas stated, “Everyone deserves to feel safe in their community. We can truly make this country safer by redirecting these funds to invest in the kind of tested local law enforcement we have here in the state of New Hampshire. That’s what my legislation will do.”
Later that day at 19:25 UTC, he announced an amendment to the Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill: “NEW: I’m introducing an amendment to the DHS appropriations bill to redirect ICE’s $75 billion slush fund to our tested and trusted local law enforcement and provide them with the resources they need. That’s how we can make our communities safer.”
At 22:42 UTC on the same day, Pappas explained his vote against a spending bill concerning Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE): “Granite Staters want law and order. They want their families to be safe. I voted against this spending bill because American citizens and taxpayers deserve accountable government and commonsense guardrails for ICE. My full statement. “
