Lisa Mazur, Representative of New Hampshire, expressed concerns that an amendment to her bill on gender transition treatments might undermine its objective of limiting drug use among minors. This statement was made on the social media platform X.
“HB377, my bill that will protect vulnerable children from harmful gender transition drugs, just went OTPa 3-2 in NH Senate HHS,” said Liza Mazur, Representatives. “They amended it to include a grandfather clause, instead of weaning off. This means kids on the drugs can continue on them indefinitely.”
In March 2025, the New Hampshire House passed HB377, a bill that bans puberty blockers and hormone therapies for minors seeking gender-affirming care. According to the New Hampshire Bulletin, the bill passed along party lines and classifies violations by medical professionals as a Class B felony. Proponents argue that the law protects children from irreversible procedures, while opponents—including LGBTQ+ advocates—say it infringes on parental rights and healthcare freedom. The bill is currently under review in the state Senate.
Reliable statewide data on gender transition drug use among minors in New Hampshire is limited. However, national estimates suggest such treatments are extremely rare. A January 2025 report by the Harvard Gazette indicates that fewer than 0.1% of adolescents in the U.S. have received puberty blockers or hormone therapies, with most recipients being older teens assigned female at birth. The study emphasizes that gender-affirming care is a low-frequency but high-impact medical decision.
National medical guidelines broadly support gender-affirming treatments for minors as effective and necessary. As reported by the Associated Press, a 2025 Utah Department of Health study found these treatments improve mental health outcomes and reduce suicide risk among transgender youth. Endorsed by groups like the American Academy of Pediatrics, these guidelines contrast with legislation in some states restricting such care, often citing concerns about reversibility and consent.
Mazur is a Republican member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, representing Hillsborough District 44 since December 2022. According to Citizens Count, she serves as Vice Chair of the House Health, Human Services & Elderly Affairs Committee and has backed legislation emphasizing parental rights and stricter healthcare regulations for minors. Her recent support of HB377 aligns with her conservative policy stance on youth and healthcare issues.
