Lisa Mazur, a Representative from New Hampshire, has called for legislative action to address concerns regarding gender-affirming care for minors. She urged Kelly Ayotte to support new child protection laws in a statement made on the social media platform X.
“Stories like LJ Detrans’ are heartbreaking and becoming more common,” said Liza Mazur, Representatives. “It’s why we have to stop this child abuse in NH. Trusting Kelly Ayotte signs my bills soon and puts our state on the map for protecting kids!”
Legislative efforts to restrict gender-affirming care for minors have been increasing both in New Hampshire and across the United States. According to KFF Health News, 2025 has seen new bills aiming to ban puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and surgeries for individuals under 18. Major medical groups warn that these bans could harm the mental health of transgender youth and limit their access to necessary care.
A systematic review published in 2024 on PubMed indicates that the rate of detransition among those who receive gender-affirming care is generally low. The review found that only 1.6–9.8% discontinue hormones or puberty blockers, with most studies showing surgical regret rates below 1%.
The Guttmacher Institute reports that as of mid-2025, over 20 states have enacted laws restricting gender-affirming medical care for minors. Additionally, 21 states have introduced 35 new bills this year, while 27 states now fully ban some or all forms of this care for youth.
Mazur is a Republican member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives from Hillsborough District 44 and has been serving since December 2022. According to Ballotpedia, she sits on the Health, Human Services & Elderly Affairs Committee and is involved in child welfare legislation. She also serves as a library trustee.
