As New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's (D) career implodes amidst allegations of improper sexual conduct with colleagues, comparisons are being drawn between the reaction among Democrats to the Cuomo scandal and the allegations directed at Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh after his nomination in 2018.

While many Democrats were quick to assume guilt by Kavanaugh, many now seem willing to let the investigation pan out when it comes to allegations against Cuomo. One such political figure is U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire.

According to Hassan's Senate website, she was one of the most vocal opponents of the confirmation of Kavanaugh in 2018, calling his accusers “brave” and “credible,” despite no evidence of Kavanaugh’s wrongdoing, as confirmed by an FBI investigation. She posted a series of Tweets claiming that women were routinely silenced and denied justice, saying “Survivors are still not being listened to and taken seriously.”

New York Attorney General Letitia James' report said actions taken by the Executive Chamber in leaking to the press confidential records relating to an accuser -- and sharing the substance of the disparaging letter drafted by Cuomo to people who were not previously aware of those records -- is the type of conduct that “could well dissuade a reasonable worker from making or supporting a charge of discrimination. Not surprisingly, these actions also sent a chilling message to other would-be complainants," the report said.

A few months after allegations made in December against Cuomo, Hassan still had not commented on the controversy, political blogger Steve MacDonald wrote on Granite Grok. Hassan did not condemn Cuomo until Aug. 3, more than six months after his accusers came forward, according to WMUR9.
