If you are observing yellow shoulder or blossom end rot in your crop, there are management steps you can take to prevent these challenges next year. Dr. Becky Sideman made this 4-minute video explaining yellow shoulders including prevention tips. This factsheet can help you understand the causes of Blossom End Rot.

FSA Pandemic Livestock Indemnity Program

The Farm Service Agency has rolled out a Pandemic Livestock Indemnity Program for swine, chicken and turkey producers who suffered losses due to insufficient access to processing facilities during the pandemic.The program will accept applications starting July 20, 2021.The time-frame for euthanized swine, chicken and turkeys under the program is March 1, 2020 to December 26, 2020.

Were you forced to depopulate/euthanize swine, chickens and turkeys last year (March 1, 2020 to December 26, 2020)? You may be eligible for help. Give your local county FSA office a call for more information.

Protecting Your Ag Employees from Infectious Disease Including New COVID-19 Delta Variant

This presentation will highlight protective measures ag employers can take to reduce transmission of infectious diseases including the new COVID-19 Delta variant. Interim guidance from the CDC and U.S. Department of Labor, “Agricultural Employer Checklist for Creating a COVID-19 Assessment and Control Plan” will be reviewed throughout the presentation. This presentation will also promote the use of mitigation strategies including COVID-19 vaccines, current evidence-based resources addressing vaccine confidence, and workplace infection control.

Visit UNH Research Farms on Durham Farm Day [In-person]

Growers and the public are invited to visit two research farms at the University of New Hampshire on Durham Farm Day Saturday, Aug. 21. The Woodman Horticultural Research Farm and the Fairchild Dairy Teaching and Research Center, both facilities of the New Hampshire Agricultural Experiment Station, will be open for free public tours. Preregistration is required. Learn more.

Economics of Robotic Milking and TRANS Iowa Low-Cost Milking Parlor Improvements and Renovations - Larry Tranel - Iowa State University Extension and Outreach

Although dairy margins have been tight, many farmers are looking ahead to either improving their present milking system or considering robotic milking. We have the unique opportunity of bringing Dr. Larry Tranel to New England for a series of meetings. He is well known for his low-cost TRANS Iowa swing parlor which can be retro-fitted into a tie-stall barn, and he has also done some of the leading work looking at the economics of robotic milking.
