Even after admitting to police that he killed and dismembered his wife, a man from Northfield pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge.

Joseph Ferlazzo was charged with murder on Oct. 20. The charge came after his wife, Emily Ferlazzo, was reported missing on Oct. 18 and he confessed to police that he shot her twice with a handgun after a heated argument, according to WMUR9.

The story has piqued the interest of people around the country, not just in New Hampshire, where the couple lived, and Vermont, where the incident occurred.

“Joseph Ferlazzo, 41, now admits he shot and dismembered his 22-year-old wife, Emily Ferlazzo," Susie McDonnell said in an Oct. 20 Tweet.

An affidavit states that Joseph Ferlazzo shot his wife following a violent argument, then put a trash bag over her head and stored the body in the bathroom of their camper, according to WMUR9. After several hours, he allegedly used a handsaw to cut apart his wife's body.

"The allegation is that Mr. Ferlazzo got into an argument with his wife and shot her, killing her in Bolton," Chittenden County State Attorney Sarah George said, according to WMUR9. "He left the body in the van for several days, and that is where it was ultimately recovered by police."

Investigators confirmed that the human remains located in the vehicle were those of Emily Ferlazzo.
