The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) has announced a bridge replacement project in Andover, scheduled to begin on Monday, September 8, 2025. The work will take place on NH Route 4 over the Blackwater River, between Fenvale Road and Plains Road. The existing bridge will be removed and replaced with a new structure.
Construction is planned from Monday through Saturday, between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM, weather permitting. During this period, NH Route 4 will be completely closed at the project site. A signed detour will guide motorists around the closure for the duration of the work.
For those traveling westbound from Salisbury on Route 4, drivers will need to turn right onto Route 127. In Franklin, they should take a left onto Route 127 (Old South Main Street), continue with a left onto Route 127/Route 3, then turn left onto Route 11 before making another right onto Route 4 in Andover.
Eastbound travelers from Andover on Route 4 should turn left onto Route 11. In Franklin, they must take a right onto Route 3A and then another right onto Route 127 (Old South Main Street). A quick right keeps them on Route 127 (Salisbury Rd), leading to the junction of Route 4/Route 127 in Salisbury where they should turn left back onto Route 4.
The project is expected to last until November. Real-time traffic updates can be accessed at https://newengland511.org/, where users can also set up “My511” alerts for incidents and construction updates.
