The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) is set to implement changes at the intersection of NH 128/Mammoth Road at Keyes Hill Road and Tallant Road in Pelham. The department plans to install additional stop signs and road markings, necessitating short-duration lane closures. These changes are weather-dependent and will occur within the next few weeks, with further timeline details forthcoming.

The current two-way stop control at the intersection will be converted to an all-way stop control, meaning all approaches will have STOP signs. This change aims to enhance driver safety and reduce vehicle collisions. Portable message boards will inform local road users about the upcoming traffic pattern change, remaining in place for about a month after implementation.

Key modifications include adding two new STOP signs on NH Route 128/Mammoth Road’s northbound and southbound approaches, accompanied by “NEW” panels for better visibility. New STOP AHEAD warning signs will be installed, existing yellow flashing beacons will be replaced with red ones, and new STOP line pavement markings will be applied. All STOP signs at the intersection will feature “ALL WAY” plaques.

The Federal Highway Administration and Roadway Safety Foundation regard all-way stop conversions as effective “lifesaving projects,” citing data that shows a significant reduction in motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries at rural intersections.
