The City of Lebanon provided an update on Feb. 13 regarding the Trues Brook Road Bridge replacement project in West Lebanon, outlining recent progress and upcoming construction steps.
This update is important for residents and commuters who rely on the bridge, as it addresses both safety measures and environmental protections during construction.
According to the announcement, temporary traffic light sequencing has experienced issues during heavy snow, sometimes switching from a red–green cycle to flashing red. To address this, the contractor has implemented a monitoring plan for inclement weather conditions. Demolition work has been completed on the bridge decking and steel beams, with wingwall blocking removed from each abutment. Metal sheeting was delivered and installed to create a temporary cofferdam around the south abutment, allowing dewatering so workers can operate safely.
Vibration monitoring was used during metal sheet installation to protect nearby structures and manage risks by enabling work stoppage if necessary. The bottom of the cofferdam was sealed with a plastic liner and sandbags to prevent sediment from entering Trues Brook. The contractor is currently setting up a sedimentation basin and filtration system to manage suspended soils from water pumped out of the cofferdam. Once this system is complete, removal of the south bridge abutment will begin.
Next steps include continuing demolition of the south abutment followed by pouring concrete footings for both bridge abutments. Pouring of these footings is expected to be finished by mid-March.
