New Hampshire Rep. Ken Weyler (R-Kingston) has resigned as House Finance Committee chair following backlash arising from sharing documents that contained COVID-19 vaccine conspiracy theories and anti-Catholic disinformation.
"Hunter S. Thompson said: 'When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.' He could have been talking about GOP conspiracy proselytizer, Ken Weyler," retired CBC video-journalist Glenn Payette wrote in an Oct. 12 tweet.
WMUR9 News reports that Weyler shared a document with fellow committee members titled the "Vaccine Death Report." The report alleges, among many things, that church leaders worship Satan and that many popes have been actually led by a secret mastermind known as "The Grey Pope." The material also alleges that COVID-19 vaccines contain beings with tentacles, as well as 5G-based tech designed to implement mind control over human beings.
"Anyone in a leadership position really has no right to be putting that stuff out, promoting that type of stuff," New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) said, according to WMUR9 News. "That type of misinformation is dangerous."
Weyler's resignation means he will also no longer be chair of the fiscal committee. Rep. Karen Umberger (R-Kearsarge), a retired Air Force veteran, has replaced Weyler as chair for both committees.
