9-1-1 Telecommunicator Michelle Hoover was awarded a Letter of Commendation last night for a medical call she handled in August 2021. The 9-1-1 call was from a distressed Nashua expectant father. His wife, who was 34 weeks pregnant, was bleeding and they did not know what was happening. Understandably, they were terrified and worried about their unborn child. Using the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch - IAED Emergency Medical Protocol, Michelle quickly gathered information and notified EMS dispatch. For eight long minutes, Michelle helped keep the couple calm, reassured them help was coming, and stayed on the phone until the ambulance arrived.

In September 2021, the husband called to thank the 9-1-1 Telecommunicator who kept him calm during his family’s emergency. He said, ‘her calm voice and direction helped my wife and I keep it together, and we are forever grateful for her being there in our hour of need.’ He went on to say his wife was doing well. In late August, she delivered a healthy baby boy.

9-1-1 Telecommunicators don’t always know the outcome of their calls leaving them wondering whether or not they did enough – not realizing just being the calm voice on the phone is absolutely everything to the person calling for help.

Congratulations, Michelle! Your professionalism and compassion have affected this family forever. They will undoubtedly count you in their Thanksgiving blessings.
