With the number of COVID-19 cases across New Hampshire on the rise, city officials recently played host to Booster Blitz weekend.

“Today I am one of 12,000 Granite Staters getting boosted as part of the state’s Booster Blitz,” Gov. Chris Sununu (R) posted on Twitter Dec. 11. “Thanks to all local, regional and state partners who helped make today a reality. The vaccine plus boosters are our way out of this pandemic — don’t wait, book your appointment today.”

More than a dozen clinics across the state took part in the mission, with 15 communities hosting Booster Blitz sites.

Those taking part in the day are required to have already gotten their preliminary vaccine shots (two of either the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine or the single-shot Johnson & Johnson version).

Sununu predicted the event won’t prove to be a one-shot deal.

“It’s already such a huge success this morning,” he tweeted. “There’s no doubt we’re going to have a plan to do it yet again.”

CBS Boston reports that with just over half of New Hampshire residents vaccinated -- 55% is the lowest rate in New England -- the National Guard was recently called in to help overwhelmed hospitals in the area. Hospitalizations are also at their highest levels since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with state officials recently reporting there were over 10,000 current cases of coronavirus in New Hampshire.
